A little bit of me…
Writing about myself has never been my strong point, but I’ll give it a go, just stick with me.
I’m Kirsty, no not Alfred. The business is named after my late, great rescue pup Alfred, and the Co, well thats me, my husband Nick, cat Zappa and three children - Rupert, Raffi and Louie. I started taking pictures of the old man dog back in 2010 and then got my first DSLR in 2011 as a wedding present ironically. This fairly trippy journey then started with a friend asking me to take photographs at her wedding in Istanbul, and literally it all started there.
I went full time with photography in 2017 and I still have to pinch myself on a regular basis to remind myself that this is what I do for a living.
I’m a big believer of trying to squeeze every bit of enjoyment out of a day, which is why I love to travel. Before having our three boys I travelled lots of South East Asia, Australasia, Sri Lanka and the Middle East. Now we have a small clan we love to travel Europe, my fave place recently was Lisbon, in fact the whole of Portugal is just totally my vibe. If I could go anywhere right now with the kiddos it would be Costa Rica, and I can’t wait to take them to Thialand where I went for the first time when I was 13 and was literally life changing.
I love yoga (when I get time to practice), I’m a spiritual gal and when I was a kid I used to dress up as a witch (all year round) and I still look for magic in everything I see and do. Which is probably what led me here!
In my 20s and 30s I loved to party but now in my 40s I’m un-ashamedly in my simple life era, though I do still love the odd rave here and there, so I’m not fully retired just yet. I bloody love music. Back in the day I was big in to 90s Hip-Hop and house, but these days I am happiest with a bit of Jazz FM and Jessie Ware on repeat. The last gig I went to was JUNGLE at WHP, and I am desperate to see Fred Again and Disclosure before I fully retire. I’ve been working on a playlist to share with you of all my favourite tunes, click here - you will need Apple Music.
I took on an allotment at the back of my house last year and its brought me more joy than I could have ever imagined. I have become that person who just sits there having a cup of tea and staring at my plants - last year I managed to grow Broccoli, peas, carrots, leeks, onions, peppers, tomatoes, berries, beans and potatoes and it’s the best feeling ever.
I met my husband Nick 22 years ago, which I still can’t believe. We are living testament that a good marriage isn’t something that is just gifted to you, to make the best of it over a long period of time, you have to work at it, grow together and love each other through everything life throws at you. We got married on Lake Como in Italy and even though when I was 30 I said I didn’t want children I now have three little boys and they are the best thing that ever happened to me and my biggest adventure yet.
I love to create, photographing weddings and families is a dream to me, and I like to think my work is defined by authenticity, warmth and a genuine desire to capture magic.
I originally wrote this content for Insta but thought I would re-use on here. At the time I was getting the ick having to write stuff about myself so I asked my friends to send over some words to describe me, they sent me loads of nice ones, which I just couldn’t use, and my sister-in-law just said ‘can I say you are batshit crazy’, which probably isn’t wrong, and then three of them said I’m hilarious but I don’t think they mean I am funny haha, just that I make a dick of myself a lot and they like to laugh at me, which is probably what will happen on your wedding day.
