An Edinburgh elopement to remember…
I first met Jess and Kane at a couple of years ago when they were filming a wedding I was photographing and since then we have become great friends. We share a love of yoga, all things spiritual and magical, and they are insane vidoegraphers by the way, so do take a look at their work - Studio Dark.
Jess mentioned to me that they were preparing to do the legal side of their wedding in Edinburgh, and then asked I take some pictures for them, ahem, yes, of course. So on a beautiful Monday in September we headed up to Edinburgh. I took my husband Nick for good measure, you’ll see him below, he came in very handy! As well as driving us all, sherpering bags up and down the hill to St Anthony’s chapel and taking some BTS images on our Nikon film camera he also recorded the ceremony and confetti throw for Kane and Jess. In short he was an angel.
On the days that we were in Edinburgh it was a Scottish Bank Holiday so it was super busy and whilst the weather was lovely it was also very, very bright so the night before the wedding we met up with Jess and Kane and they floated the idea of getting up super early before the sun was too high and the city got too busy to take some pictures before the hand fasting ceremony and I was totally game!
The day went something like this; I got to the hotel for just after 6am, they were then getting ready and Jess and Kane were exchanging cards which was just beautiful. Kane then left the room to get ready and then the pair met back up downstairs and the moment they saw each other all dressed for the first time was pure magic.
From there we went to a few fave spots around Edinburgh, first the cobbled street across from the castle (sorry I don’t know its official name), then we had an espresso and cannoli outside Castigate Cafe before having a mooch up Victoria St. We then jumped in the car and head over to Circus Lane.
What a good ol’ time we had - the light was stunning and the streets were absolutely empty apart from a few people getting their morning coffee!
